AVAAC had 16 athletes competing in the Welsh Indoor Championships at NIAC. We came away with a total of 12 medals and plenty of new club indoor records and PBs. See the attached PDF document for a full report of the championships.
On 25th September 2011, Richard Gardiner of AVAAC was crowned Commonwealth Champion at the inaugural 55Km Ultra trail race held in Newborough Forest on the Isle of Anglesey.
The trail races formed part of the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships. Richard beat off competition from all over the Commonwealth to take this prestigious title in an amazing time of 3 hours 29 Minutes and 55 Seconds. Richard was in 7th position after 6 miles, 4th at 13 miles and 3rd at 20 miles. He took the lead at 30 miles and finished in style.
All involved at AVAAC would like to congratulate Richard on this fine achievement and if I’m not mistaken, he is the first ever AVAAC athlete to bring home a commonwealth medal.
